My grandmother, Tabitha, was born in Jamaica to a mother of Chinese ancestry and a father whose bloodlines included both Ashanti and Scottish ancestry. She grew up and became a seamstress and missionary with the Salvation Army. With her husband and two children in tow, sewing case and a Bible in hand, she travelled from country to country armed with grace, wisdom, and the stony adage to “grow where planted”.
SUSTAINABILITY
In a world of growing consumerism the question of what stories need to be told and what products tell them becomes increasingly relevant. As a small brand, we have to opportunity to live by sustainable practices, though these guiding principles:
Low quantities – we never produce more than fifty articles of each model
Noble fabrics – we vigorously source fabrics that come from reliable producers and we always keep track of the supply chain
Low carbon footprint – our products are almost entirely made in Europe and we look for the most efficient shipping methods
Transparency and Artistry – we are a family-owned company that looks for collaboration with artisans and believe our attention to detail for each garment is like that of a painter
THE BLOUSE THAT
STARTED IT ALL
After launching handbags in 2016, Adrienne turned her attention to studying the lines that form a perfect silk blouse. Most silk shirts have darts to create a shape that rarely flatters all silhouettes. Thinking back to her grandmother’s adage that “only the lazy tailor uses darts”, Adrienne started to experiment with paneling. Sourcing high-quality French silk, Adrienne perfected her technique for well-tailored silk blouses that form and move with all body types. The core collection at the heart of Adrienne Angelvin was born, introducing the “Sara”, “Clementine”, and “Tuxedo” shapes. Designed to be worn for all occasions, under a blazer or on their own, Adrienne’s silk blouses flatter all figures from day to night.
